RITA ELIZABETH (BELL) HUNTER

HUNTER, RITA ELIZABETH (BELL) - Rita E. Hunter of Russell, Manitoba passed away February 14, 2006 at the Russell & District Hospital at the age of 92 years. Rita was born in Russell on July 16, 1913, the eldest daughter of Harry and Annie Bell. She attended school in Russell and Winnipeg. Her first job was working for a lawyer J.A. Glen in Russell. She worked as a secretary holding many positions across Canada including working for the Vancouver Sun to working as a court reporter in Fredericton, N.B. While Rita worked in Russell she met the love of her life, Harold A. Hunter, who was a R.C.M.P. here. She was married to Lt. Harold A. Hunter in Toronto on February 12, 1941. Harold went overseas for a while and when he returned in 1946 they moved to Fredericton, N.B. In 1959 they moved to St. Stephen, N.B. Rita and Harold enjoyed traveling and made many trips across Canada and the United States. Harold died in St. Stephen, N.B. in 1990. In 1991 Rita moved back to Russell, M.B. Rita loved music and was exceptional at all handicrafts. She also enjoyed sewing. In 1991, Rita had her first stroke and she lost partial use of her right hand. Rita was a private person, she lead a very quiet life enjoying her home and friends and family. Rita is survived by one sister Lea (Bill) McLachlan and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold, parents Harry and Anne Bell, sisters Zella Dunkin and Doreen Harris and niece Judy. Funeral service was held at the Braendle-Bruce Funeral Chapel, Russell, M.B. February 21, 2006. Family graveside service to follow at a later date.
