HOWARD, DR. JOHN EDWARD - Dr. John Edward Howard, 66, of 129 Hawthorne St., Antigonish, N.S., passed away March 13, 2006 at St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Saint John, N.B, he was the son of T. Michael and Florence (Egan) Howard. John graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 1962 and Dalhousie Medical School in 1967. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) and went on to practice surgery at St. Martha's Regional for a number of years. He also practiced sports medicine at St. Francis Xavier University. He was actively involved in many community projects. John was a past member of R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home Foundation. At the time of his death, John was a member of the board of directors of Celtic Homes, Antigonish. John is survived by his wife Shelagh (Malloy); son Michael and grandchildren: Matthew and Lauren, Halifax; daughter Jane Anne, Halifax; Sister Mary (John) Martin, Saint John; Brothers Michael (Ann) Montreal; Tony (Karen), Halifax; loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held from St. Ninian's Cathedral, Antigonish on March 17, 2006. Rev. Ray Huntley presided. Burial is to take place at a later date.
