CROSSMAN, George Travis (Major DFC, CD2) - 86 years, passed peacefully away on November 2, 2007, in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII, Halifax. Born in Sackville, N.B., on September 6, 1921, the son of the late Gilbert and Frances (Manship) Crossman, George was predeceased by his wife Vivian (Flann), and son Richard. He is survived by his son Robert, (Jean), Dartmouth; daughter Nancy Blundon (Dan), Topsail, N.L.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was a graduate of Mount Allison and Dalhousie Dental School and active as a dentist for 30 years. His military career commenced in 1936 as a New Brunswick Ranger after which he enrolled in the RCAF as a navigator and served overseas in Bomber Command. After the war, he continued his education and taught school before joining COTC in 1949. He was commissioned again in 1953 in the army and served with HMCS Magnificent, 8th Canadian Hussars, Queens Own Rifles in Germany, CFS Fort Churchill, and retired at CFB Greenwood. He was active in the sports of rugby, hockey bowling and golf, and a long-term Legion member of Branch 98, Kingston. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will take place in Sackville, N.B., at a later date.
