VALLIS, VERNA M. - Unexpectedly on May 5, 2006 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Verna Maude (Fiander) Vallis, beloved wife of Allan C. Vallis, Saint John, N.B. Born in Coombs Cove, Newfoundland, June 28, 1923 to the late Deborah and Owen Fiander. Verna was devoted to her husband of 58 years and very proud of her four sons and their families. Verna enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, knitting, playing cards and her summers on Belleisle Bay. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, the Canadian Cancer Society and a member of the Silver Links Senior Club and St. James Anglican Church. Besides her husband, she is survived by her sons Allan (Lana), Kingston, N.B.; Wayne (Nancy), Rothesay, N.B.; Owen (Cindy), Santa Clara, California and Daniel (Tina), Saint John, N.B. and grandchildren Owen (Skip) Jr., and Rory of Los Angeles, California; Max, Santa Clara, California; Alison and Leah, Rothesay, N.B., Steven of Oshawa, Ont.; also survived by her sister Pearl Rose, St. John's, Newfoundland and brother Otto Fiander, Mose Ambrose, Newfoundland and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Verna was predeceased by her sister Elsie and brothers, Leonard, Victor, Chester, Thomas, Duncan and Max. Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646- 2424), with visiting on Monday 2-4 and 7-9. The Funeral service will be held from St. James Anglican Church, Lakewood on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Ocean View Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
