
M. JEAN RUSHTON
RUSHTON, M. JEAN - M. Jean Rushton, 88, formerly of New Minas, Kings County, Nova Scotia, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2006 in the Wolfville Nursing Home. Born in Woodstock, New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Ara Lizetta (Tapley) Quigg. After graduation from Acadia University in 1943, Jean and her husband, Vin served in the Billtown Baptist Church. Together they served the Canadian Baptist Overseas Mission Board as missionaries in India for 20 years, between 1947-1967. Jean and Vin also served pastorates in New Ross, Canning, Lawrencetown and Bedford. Upon returning from India, Jean worked as a librarian at Glooscap Elementary and Cornwallis District High School in Canning. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society and the Social and Benevolent Society of Wolfville United Baptist Church. She was also a member of the University Women's Club. Jean loved music and sang for over 35 years with the Acadia University Chorus. In tribute to her missionary service, auxiliaries in both Billtown and Bedford bear her name. She is survived by her son, Robert (Barbara), New Minas; two granddaughters, Christianne (Michael Caines), New York; Heather, Wolfville; a sister, Fay Lenehan, Woodstock, New Brunswick; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Reverend Vincent Rushton; a sister, Rubye; four brothers, Myrland, Eldon, Bill and Don. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2006 and from 2-5 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2006 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 23, 2006 in the Wolfville United Baptist Church, Reverend Doctor Barry Morrison officiating. Burial will take place in the Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Feed the Children Fund or to the M. Jean Rushton Memorial Fund, Alumni and Development Office, Acadia University, Wolfville, NS B4P 2R6. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.
