WALTER HAROLD MORTIMER

MORTIMER, WALTER HAROLD - The death of Walter Harold, widower of the late Mary Mildred (Buckley) Mortimer, of Saint John, occurred suddenly on Saturday December 9th, 2006 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1925 in Saint John, he was the son of the late John and Sadie (McLaughlin) Mortimer. Walter was a Veteran of WWII, serving with the Canadian Army overseas. After returning from the war, he took on many endeavors working as a Manager for an Irving Oil Station for many years and also ran various second hand stores in the Saint John area. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Portland Branch #64 and enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with family and friends laughing and telling jokes. He is survived by one son, Walter Mortimer (Sharon); four daughters, Aileen Gallant, Nancy Williams, Gale Mazerolle (Ray), Lorraine Soucy (Gill), all of Saint John; four brothers, Bob Mortimer, Herb Mortimer (Margaret), Joseph Mortimer (Joan) all of Saint John and James Mortimer (Hazel) of St. Martin's; two sister-in-laws, Mabel Mortimer of Hampton, Lena Mason of Saint John; fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; special friend Val Barry of Saint John; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and his wife, Walter was predeceased by a brother John Mortimer. Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd. Saint John (646-2424) with visitation today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Legion Tribute Service will be held tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Fundy Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, December 12th, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
