LOUIS LEVINE

LEVINE, LOUIS - Louis Levine, husband of the late Sarah Levine of Fredericton died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February 20, 2007. Born in Fredericton in 1916, he was the son of the late Abe and Basha Levine. Louis' lifetime devotion was to his immediate and extended family. He along with his father and brother were among the founding families of the Sgoolai Israel Synagogue, serving as senior religious advisor (Guba) for over 30 years, and proudly re-confirming his Bar Mitzvah at the age of 75. He was an active and lifetime member of the Kiwanis Club and spearheaded the organization that founded the Killarney Lake Park. A supportive member of the Fredericton Business Community, he and his brother Harryn founded Levine's Department Store, a cornerstone of the downtown business community for 50 years. He will be fondly remembered for his generosity and concern that he extended to so many throughout his lifetime. Survived by his two daughters, Ellen Levine of Fredericton, and Bonnie Levine and her husband, Fred Potash of Toronto, two granddaughters, Brittney Brightman and Jenna Potash and one grandson, Michael Potash all of Toronto; two brothers, Harry (Edith) and Weldon (Joan), and several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to his two loving and devoted caregivers for six years, Bonnie Bright and June Skinner and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, one brother Jack; one son Jeffrey and various loving dogs. In the Jewish tradition, Sheva is observed commencing immediately following the burial, for one week. This is a time for family and friends (both Jewish and non-Jewish) to gather and honor the life of those who have passed. Sheva will be held at the home of Ellen Levine (1647 Woodstock Road, Fredericton). The funeral service will be held at the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Rabbi Kenneth Zisook. Honorary pallbearers will be: Rabbi Spiro, Sid Tobin, Harry Lang, Lou Swetski, and David Arnoff; active pallbearers will be: Louis and Jake Budovitch, Larry Finkelstein, Seth Chippin, and Peter and Ivan Levine. Interment will take place in the Sgoolai Israel Cemetery. Memorial tributes made to the Fredericton and Oromocto SPCA would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton, NB. (458-9170) www.mcadamsfh.com
