WALTER BURNETT BREBNER

BREBNER, WALTER BURNETT - An amazing gentleman has passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 21, 2007. Born on April 9, 1919 in Cabano, PQ, he was the son of the late Andrew White Brebner, Aberdeen, Scotland, and Cecilia (Matheson) Brebner, Kincardine, N.B. Also predeceased by his wife Marjorie (Clarke), brothers Andrew, William, Alec and John Cuthbert. Survived by his six adoring children, Andrew (Jane), Yellowknife, NWT, Ruth (Mike) Lipsett, Edmonton AB, Jeanie Colwell, Fredericton, Mary Brebner, Fredericton, Donald (Sandra) Brebner, Fredericton, and James (Karyn) Brebner of Montreal PQ. A well-loved Grandpa to 11 loving grandchildren, Ashley, Tara, Courtney, Katie, Stephen, Brad, Janna, Bryan, Alison, Karolyn and Andrew. He was a special uncle to niece Mary Brebner, Calgary AB and nephew William Brebner (Susan), Edmundston. Walter spent his childhood in Edmundston and Campbellton, and graduated from the University of New Brunswick in Sciences (Chemical Engineering) in the class of 1940. He served overseas in World War II with the Royal Canadian Engineers from June 1941 until December 1945. He married in 1954 and worked at Fraser's Pulp and Paper Mill in Edmundston until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church throughout his life. He had many interests; he was an avid cyclist enjoying time locally with the 'Folks on Spokes', breadmaker, vintner, gardener, reader, outdoorsman and bird-watcher and was the original creator of 'happy soup'. He loved life and enjoyed every moment and in turn taught his family to do the same. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Och, aye. 'Our thoughts could not revert to any greater or wiser or better man with whom to contrast him, for he, then and there, was above them all.' - Henry David Thoreau Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 27th, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held in the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, February 28th, 2007 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Reg Miller officiating. Interment will take place in Edmundston at a later date. For those who wish, memorial tributes in Walter's honor may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. www.mcadamsfh.com (458-9170)
