BASS, HELEN MAY- Helen May Bass (78) of North Head Grand Manan Island passed away at her residence Tuesday April 24th, 2007. Born in Deep Cove she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Elsie Wilcox. Helen will be remembered with her soft smile and pleasant outlook on life. She was very active in the Grand Manan Community and was seen at and supported as many community social events as she could with her many friends. Community service was a high priority to her as she served as the Chairperson of Rotary Isle Estates; former Chairperson of the Grand Manan School Board; former President of the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 44. Also she served as a Board member for the Grand Manan Hospital; Grand Manan Archives; Grand Manan Historical Society; Grand Manan Nursing Home; Grand Manan Museum; Grand Manan Tourism Association; and also the Grand Manan Helping Hands. Faithful to God and a loving Mother, Wife, and Friend, she will be missed by all who were fortunate to know and be a part of her life. Survived by her husband of fifty-seven years Lester; one daughter Kimberly Miller (David) of Toronto, ON; three sons Gary Bass (Ruth) of Langley, BC; Philip Bass (Karen) of Yarmouth, NS; and Kevin Cormier of St. George, NB. One sister Mrs. Maude Hunter of Deep Cove, NB; one daughter-in-law Jocelyn Brown of Grand Harbour, NB; one aunt Helena Wilcox of Pennfield, NB; five Grandchildren; one Great Grandchild, and several nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was predeceased by her brother Albert. Visiting hours will be held from Ells Funeral Home for the family Wednesday evening from 7-9 pm and then for the public on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Funeral Service will take place from the Grand Manan Community School on Friday April 27th, 2007 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Charles O'Reagan and Rev. John Hiltz officiating. Internment to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery Castalia. The family has requested that donations in memory of Helen may be made to the Grand Manan Historical Society, or Rotary Isle Estates.
