Feb. 21, 1915-April 28, 2008 Arthur Scott, beloved husband of Muriel Scott of Calgary, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2008, at the age of 93 years. Arthur was born in Port aux Basques, Nfld. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1939 and served in the Second World War until 1946, travelling all over the world serving his country. Arthur moved to Sydney, N.S., and married after the war in 1948. He worked at Colby School for many years as a caretaker and was an active member of the Church of England. Later in life, he and Muriel came west to be near family. No matter where Arthur resided, he always thought of himself as a ‘Newfoundlander.’ He was a prolific poet, writing about his early years in Newfoundland and his war experiences. Arthur’s great interest was building model sailing boats and gardening. He was also an avid fisherman and had a great love for the outdoors. Besides his loving wife Muriel, Arthur is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon and Georgina, Jim and Marie and one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara MacKenzie and Rick Rudolf, all of Calgary; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Pearl Martin, Sydney, N.S., and Dorothy MacNeil, Halifax, N.S. Funeral services will be held at McInnis & Holloway’s Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre St. North), Saturday, May 3, 2008, at 1 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.
