It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved and cherished mother, Mary Agnes Sutherland, on May 1, 2008, at Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston, with her family by her side. Born in Soldiers Cove on April 14, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Angus Allan and Elizabeth (MacNeil) MacDonald. She was a devoted Catholic belonging to the Immaculate Conception parish, Barra Head, and a life member of the ladies auxiliary legion, Branch 47. She was well known for her tea biscuits and a good cup of tea. She is survived by daughters, Martha (Peter) Sleeman, Vancouver B.C., Elizabeth Sutherland, Revelstoke, B.C., Jessie (Raymond) White, Soldiers Cove, Margaret (Austin) Martell, Soldiers Cove, Laura (Hughie) Macmillan, Antigonish; sons, Leslie (Linda), Michael (Mary), Allan (Terry), all of Revelstoke, B.C., Patrick (Maureen), Sydney; 20 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; many special nieces and nephews, as well as numerous Godchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Peggy Collet and Mary Jessie Savoie, Soldiers Cove; brother, Michael MacDonald, Revelstoke, B.C.; and sister-in-law, Cecilia McCuish, St. Peter’s. She was predeceased by husband, Lawrence Sutherland, son, Michael Leo and grandson, Joseph White. Visitation will be held at the Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home, St. Peter’s, today (Saturday, May 3, 2008) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, Barra Head, Monday, 11 a.m. with Rev. Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Burial will take place at the parish cemetery. Family flowers only by request. Donations may be made to the parish cemetery fund or charity of choice.
