Mary Elizabeth (Turnbull) MacDonald

Date de décès : 3 mai 2008

Sept. 13, 1916 - May 3, 2008 After 91 years of dedicated service, this precious angel returned to Heaven. Her time on earth was spent for many years in McKays Corner before moving on to Homeville, where she lived with her husband, Donnie, and their eight children. After Don’s retirement, they moved to Sydney, and finally settled as a couple in the senior’s complex in Reserve. Several years after Don’s death in 1977, Liz moved to Halifax only to return to Glace Bay, where she resided with her son, Jackie, and his wife, Karen, for many years. She then moved to the Miramichi in New Brunswick to be with her two daughters, Betty and Linda, for her remaining time on earth. Liz was the daughter of the late William and Alice (Nearing) Turnbull. She married Don MacDonald of Victoria Street in Glace Bay and together they brought eight children into this world. She gave a little of the angel in her to each of her children, allowing them to recognize angels when they met them. Over the years they have met many but none so wonderful as the one they called “Ma”. Liz was predeceased by her husband, Donald; her son, Philip; her brothers, Philip and Neil and one infant sister, Alice; as well as her parents, William and Alice Turnbull. She is survived by one brother, William (Mary) Turnbull, Glace Bay; three sons, Donald (Greta), Port Alberni, B.C., Jackie (Karen), Glace Bay and Robert (Florence), Halifax; four daughters, Lorraine (John) McLean, Oromocto, N.B., Alice (Nelson), Vancouver, B.C., Linda (Myron) Morrison, Miramichi, N.B. and Betty (Jim) Muck, Miramichi, N.B.; granddaughter, Valerie (Fred) Wadden, Glace Bay; as well as another 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. The family will welcome visitors at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay on Tuesday, May 6 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at the funeral home chapel on Friday, May 9 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Michael Henderson officiating. Interment in Black Brook Cemetery will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the IWK Hospital for Sick Children in Halifax.
