ALDEN EUGENE LeGASSIE

LeGASSIE, ALDEN EUGENE - The death of Alden LeGassie of Saint John, husband of Joan (Magee) LeGassie, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on September 12, 2007. Born in Fredericton, he was a son of the late Thomas and Kathleen (O'Leary) LeGassie. Alden had been employed with Rocca Construction and was a supervisor for many years. He enjoyed carpentry, woodworking and gardening. He volunteered his time and talents with the Scouting and Guiding groups, local schools, the Chicken Noodle Club and the Inner City Youth Ministry. He was a member of the South Central Citizen's Committee and of the Vestry of St James Anglican Church. Alden was brought up Catholic but attended St James Anglican Church for 47 years and most recently attended Germain Street Baptist Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Bob LeGassie (Ada) of Quispamsis; one daughter, Susan Colwell (John) of Saint John; one brother, Reggie LeGassie (Sandra) of Oromocto; three sisters, Pauline Carr (Willie) of Geary, Avis Cabana (Ray) of Fredericton and Doreen LeGassie of Mill Cove; three Grandchildren, Melissa and Patrick Colwell and Erin LeGassie; several nieces and nephews and several cousins. He was predeceased by one sister, Jeannette and two brothers, Gerald and Douglas. Alden is resting at Cavanagh Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 91 Leinster St (634-1712) with visiting on Friday, September 14 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held from Cavanagh's Chapel on Saturday, September 15 at 1 pm. Following cremation internment will take place in Cedar Hill Ext Cemetery on Monday, September 17 at 2 pm.
