79, North Sydney It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Murdock William (Bill) Ross, 79, a resident of Regent Street, North Sydney, and a former longtime resident of Shore Road, Sydney Mines, on Wednesday May 7, 2008, at the Northside General Hospital. Born in Sydney Mines, he was a son of the late Wharton and Lexie (Sutherland) Ross. Murdock was employed as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic for over 35 years until his retirement. In his younger years he worked on the family farm and for many years participated in the farmers exhibitions throughout Nova Scotia. He was a former member of the Seaview Golf Club. Murdock was an honourable man, a devout Christian and an adherent of Clyde Avenue Baptist Church in Sydney Mines. He was a cherished husband to his wife of over 55 years, Grace ‘Kay’ (Thornhill) Ross; he was a loving father to his children, Bruce (Ingrid) Ross, Kitchener, Patricia (Doug) Slomke, Sault Ste. Marie, Carol (Paul) Ross-Bertrand, Toronto, Wayne (Kathleen) Ross, Carlton Place, Ottawa; three grandchildren, Graeme Ross, Halifax, Naika Ross, Seoul, South Korea, Julianne Ross, Halifax; sisters, Georgia Allen, North Sydney, Lilah Sundburg, Ocala, Fla.; and best friend, Edwin (Vera) Bruce, Sydney Mines. He was predeceased by his brother, Allister Ross. There will be a private family visitation for Murdock in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, at Clyde Avenue Baptist Church, Sydney Mines with Rev. Dr. Frank Guinta Sr. officiating. Cremation to follow with burial in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney, at a later date.
