GEORGE HENRY RUSSELL

RUSSELL, GEORGE HENRY - George H. Russell, of Saint John, NB, husband of the late, Inez (Ingraham) Russell, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 18, 2008, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born in Saint John, he was a son of the late Elijah "Bill" and Prudence (Bradbury) Russell. George joined the active Armed Forces and served for the duration of 1939 - 1945, achieving rank of Warrant Officer. Following his discharge, he became employed at Canada Post, where he remained until his retirement after 33 years in the service. After his retirement he worked in retail for Sears Ltd., sold real-estate for Canada Permanent Trust, he was an expeditor for Foster Wheeler Ltd. and also worked for Courtesy Taxi. He was a past President and Executive Officer of Saint John and District Association of Postal Officers of Canada. George also served in executive positions of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #14 and the Sarjent's Mess of Barrick Green Armories. He had an extreme passion for reading on all topics but particularly History and Geography. George was fluent in three languages, English, French, German and the written language of short hand. He was an avid fisherman, bowler, life long fan of Harness Racing. Until the time of his passing, he regularly enjoyed a visit to the 'local' to visit with his friends and raise a glass to those current and past. Survived by his children; Prue Adams (Vince) of Moncton, NB, Art Russell of Calgary, AB, Paul Russell of Saint John, Ken Russell of Turkse Caicos Island, Caribbean, Glen Russell (Sandy) of Saint John, Bill Russell (Julie) of Saint John and June Christian of Fredericton, NB, his sister, Edythe Crawford (Carson) of Riverview, NB, seventeen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two expected great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he is also predeceased by several brothers and sisters. I came this way. I paused a while, and tried to make a place. And now I'm in my last repose, In such a little space. Small mark I've made on this old earth. My tears could scarce be wetter. And if I come this way again, I promise to do better. - G. H. Russell Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Saturday from 7 to 9 pm and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 21, 2008 from Brenan's Chapel at 10:00 am. Interment to take place in Fernhill Cemetery.
