MCGOVERN, LAURA LESLIE - The death of Laura Leslie McGovern, wife of the late Walter Leo McGovern, in her 97th year, occurred on January 16th, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born March 8, 1911, in Saint John she was the daughter of the late George and Eleanor (Gillespie) Eccles. Surviving are her daughters, Marjorie (the late Arthur) Gatien, Kathlyn (Earl) Biddiscombe, her two sons, William (Inez), McGovern Donald (Brenda) McGovern and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents she was predeceased by brothers, Herbert and Charles, sisters, Mary Gates, Marjorie Slocum and Annie Eccles, granddaughter, Shirley (McGovern) Boyce and great-grandson, Matthew Dewar. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Peter's Parish, a member of the CWL and the Legion of Mary. Laura was employed for many years at Zellers Ltd. And Welsfords Drug Store. Resting at Brenans Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, at 10:00 am, from St. Peter's Church. Interment will take place at St. Augustine's Cemetery.
