JEAN LILLIAN STEEVES

STEEVES, JEAN LILLIAN - Jean Lillian Steeves 97, our dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt passed away peacefully on Saturday January 19, 2008 with her loving family by her side at Protem Health Services in Moncton. Born in Canobie, Jean was the daughter of the late John and Gertrude (Rosengren) Sealy. Jean graduated from Success Business College and worked for the T. Eaton Company in Moncton for nine years. Her married life was devoted to supporting her husband in his business as a building contractor (S. H. Steeves and Son) and to her family as well as her greater church family at Highfield Baptist where she has been a member for 75 years. Jean spent her life being concerned for the well being of others who benefited by receiving a few cookies, a loaf of "Nanny's good bread", a batch of "Grampie's yummy fudge" or a bottle of her pickles or jam. She was involved in many church activities at Highfield including, being a Dominion Life Member of the WMS, a member of the Sunshine Class and the Young at Heart. She spent many hours volunteering her time for organizations such as the CGIT, Don Steeves Memorial School, Meals on Wheels, Red Cross and Spencer Nursing Home. Jean leaves to mourn her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, John Steeves as well as her daughter, Elaine Smith (Allan) of Sackville and her son, Eric (Janet) of Moncton; four granddaughters, Krista Bernard (Joel) of Vancouver, Heather Dacey (Mark) of Halifax, Amy Lavers (Matthew) of Truro, and Jill of Moncton; five special great-grandchildren who always brought a smile to Nanny's face, Kaitlyn and Emily Bernard, Tye and Carter Dacey and Noah Lavers. Also left to mourn is Jean's brother, Andrew Sealy (Peggy); sister-in-law Willa Sealy; sister-in-law, Margaret Whitely (Jim); as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Opal, Neva, Velma and Eda; brother, Ronald; nephew, Jack. Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd., Moncton (858-1995), Tuesday 2 to 4, 7 to 9. Funeral Service at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel, Wednesday January 23, 2008, 1:30pm; Rev. Jonathan Steeper officiating: Reception following the service: Interment, Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. In Jean's memory, donations to the Highfield Baptist Church or memorial of choice would be appreciated.
