CARPENTER, GEORGE W. - The death of George W. Carpenter of Ridgewood Veterans Wing occurred at his residence on January 24, 2008. Born in Saint John he was a son of the late Herman S. and Mary (Hanson) Carpenter. George spent the greater part of his life in Saint John but had resided a number of years in Sarnia ON. He was a Vet of WW II, serving in the Canadian Navy on the Corvettes. After the war he was self employed as a truck driver and upon returning to Saint John he drove truck for his brother Ralph and nephew David Carpenter in the family business. He was a member of RCL Carleton Branch #2 and was a member of ILA #273 for a number of years. He enjoyed NASCAR, all sports and TV. He is survived by three sisters, Muriel, Helen and Jean; several nieces and nephews; and special nephews David, Ralph and Kelly. He was predeceased by brothers Ralph, John, Robert; and sister Patricia. By request there will be no visiting. Following cremation a family graveside service will be held at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery, Field of Honor.
