TAYLOR (SMITH), FREDA ELIZABETH - Her death occurred peacefully on February 25, 2008 at the Home of Saint John and Saint Stephen, Millidgeville, in her 90th year. She was the daughter of the late Frank P. and Sarah C. (Lacey) Smith of Saint John and Fairvale and was a longtime resident of Gondola Point. Freda was a graduate of Saint John High School and was employed by the former Vassie, Brock & Manchester as a bookkeeper. Freda was an avid gardener, who, for many years with her sister Ruth, planted and tended the gardens & grounds of the "Church Home" - eventually to be Freda's final residence. She was a life-long member of the congregation of St. John & St. Stephen Presbyterian Church. During World War ll, Freda served as a volunteer with the Red Cross, including duty at the Lancaster Veteran's Hospital. Freda collected antiques and had a great sense of style and flare with interior design. She had a deep appreciation for things artistic and for persons creatively inclined; offering encouragement at every turn. Freda also enjoyed puzzles, word-smithing, traveling with friends and family, boating and beachcombing. Freda was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Ronald H. Taylor; brothers Donald, George, Lloyd (Bob); sisters Ruth (Peacock) and Shirley. She is survived by her brother, R. Gordon Smith, Bridgewater, N.S., and sister-in-law Joyce Smith of Rothesay; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews across Canada and the United States. Her smile, her laughter and her happy whistle will be deeply missed. In accordance with her wishes her remains have been cremated.
