LUNERGAN, WILLIAM "BILL" DOUGLAS - After a brief illness William passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on April 22nd, 2008 in his ninetieth year. He was born in Fairville on July 14th, 1918, the son of Robert Fawcett and Mary Viola Lunergan. Bill retired on August 1st 1983 after 50 years of service with Consolidated Bathurst (formerly Wilson Box Mill). During World War II he served with the army at Camp Utopia. William was a volunteer firefighter, a member of the Kiwanis K Club, and a Diocesan Lay Reader with the Anglican Church for many years. William was a former member of the Charlotte Street Baptist Church, now Hillcrest Baptist Church where he was a deacon, trustee, Sunday school Superintendent, song leader and choir member. He also was a member of the Cantus Choir and the Saint John Symphony Choir. He was a member of the Carleton Cornet Band, St. Mary's Band and a charter member of the 3rd Field Artillery Regiment Band which was formed in 1948. William was also a choir member of Main Street Baptist Church, St. George's Anglican Church, St. Paul's Anglican Church, Carleton-Kirk United Church and St. John the Baptist and St. Clement Anglican Church. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen F. (Turner) Lunergan; daughters, Sandra Friars, Cheryl (Fred) Carter and son, Douglas (Barbara) Lunergan; grandchildren, Natalie (Robert) Green, Margo (Stuart) Duff, Kimberly (Mark) Kilburn, Scott (Judy) Lunergan; great grandsons, Benjamin & Nicholas Green, Samuel & Jacob Duff, Christopher & Nathan Kilburn. The last surviving member of his family, William was predeceased by his sisters, Audrey Curran, Doris Gray & Rita Cloutier and brothers, Kenneth & Ralph Lunergan. As well, he was predeceased by his first wife, Bernice (Melvin) Lunergan and grandson, Todd Carter. William was well known for his rich bass voice, his wit and charming personality. He will be dearly missed. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, "Fallsview Chapel", 309 Lancaster Ave. (634-1701) visitation will take place on Thursday, April 24th 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 25th 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Fallsview Family Reception Center. For those who wish, memorial tributes may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the NB Diabetic Association, St. John the Baptist and St. Clement Anglican Church, St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home, or the charity of the donor's choice.
