MATTHEW JAMES CROSS
CROSS, MATTHEW JAMES - Cross, Matthew James, (Max), 98. Passed away on May, 09, 2008 at his residence, Forest Dale Home Inc. Riverside/Albert, Albert Co. N.B. Born in Indian Cove, NL, July 13, 1909, son of George and Grace (Buffet) Cross. Emigrated to Canada at age four and grew up in North Sydney and Neil's Harbour, Cape Breton. As a young man he worked as a fisherman, commercial sailor, and musician. He served in the RCAF in Canada and overseas from 1939 - 1945 as an Aero Mechanic-Flight Sergeant. He was employed as a Foreman, at Canada Cement-Lafarge, Havelock, N.B. for 23 years. He retired with his wife in 1974 to live in their summer home, Belleisle Bay, Erbs Cove, N.B. He enjoyed building boats, playing music and spending winters in Florida. He was married to Treva May Armstrong of Waterside (deceased 2005) for 62 years. Survived by two sons, Dale (Wendy) of Erbs Cove and Dana (Joanne) of Hopewell Cape; sister-in-law, Frances Armstrong of Alma; three grandsons, Matthew (Vanessa), of Calgary, Luke of Hopewell Cape, Brendon (Jennifer) of Saint John; one great-grandson Cody of Saint John; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Bertha and Clara; and one brother, Harold. Resting at Reid's Funeral Home (832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, with visitation 19:00 to 21:00 hrs Sunday and 12:00 to 13:30 hrs Monday prior to the service. The funeral will be held Monday at 13:30 hrs at Reid's Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev'd. Bonnie Leblanc officiating. Interment in Trinity Cemetery, Sussex Corner.
