JAMES EDWARD HICKS

HICKS, JAMES EDWARD - Unexpectedly at his residence in Blacks Harbour, NB on May 17th, 2008, Mr. James Edward Hicks, husband of the late Alice Josephine (Leavitt) Hicks. Born in St. Louis MO, on October 1st, 1943, he was a son of the late Albert E. and Virginia L. (Boesiger) Hicks. A loving father and grandfather, he is survived by one son, Tony (Kim) Hicks of Waweig NB; one daughter, Donna (Randy) Moses of Blacks Harbour; two grandchildren, Craig Moses and Caitlin Hicks; sister- in-law, Frances (Arnold) Hatt of Utopia NB; brother-in-law, Gene (Ruth) Leavitt of Pennfield NB; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by one brother, Charles; and two sisters, Roberta Dickinson and Elizabeth Parker. James was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Jim moved to Canada in 1973 where he worked as an upholsterer in Saint John NB before moving to Blacks Harbour to work for Connors Bros. as an Electrician and Stationery Engineer for 30 years until his retirement. Jim served two tours in Vietnam with the 1st Air Calvary Division and received the Bronze Star before being Honorably discharged. He was a member of the American Legion in Calais ME, and member of the Masonic Lodge F & AM # 12 in St. George. Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB with visiting on Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm. A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Blacks Harbour on Wednesday at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Fundy Nursing Home or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. (www.stgeorgefh.ca)
