WILLIAM JAMES "BILL" JOHNSTON
JOHNSTON, WILLIAM JAMES "BILL" - Surrounded by his family, the death of Bill Johnston of Hickey Road, Saint John occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, June 16, 2008. He was born in Saint John, NB on May 14, 1922 to the late James and Margaret (Fairly) Johnston. Bill served with the Royal Air Force 73rd Squadron in World War II. During the war, Bill was shot down over the Greek Isles and captured by the Nazis. Soon after his capture, he escaped the prison camp and rejoined the air force. Once he returned to Canada, Bill was the Grounds Foreman School Board in Saint John. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #69. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Jane (McGregor) of Saint John, NB; two daughters: Morag Clark (Brian) of St. Martins, NB and Sandra Cervantis (George) of Pennfield, NB; one special daughter: Hazel Jack of Scotland; one brother: George Johnston of Saint John, NB; three grandchildren: Stephanie Roberts (Danny Grant), Justin Clark and Marianna Cenvantis; two great grandchildren: Reid Roberts and Jamie Grant and several nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service will be held at 7 pm on Wednesday during the visitation. The funeral service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Thursday, June 18, 2008 at 2:30 pm.
