JOHANSEN, VAUGHAN - At the Grand Falls Manor Veterans' Wing, May 13, 2008, Mr. Vaughan Johansen of New Denmark passed away at the age of 86 years. He was the common-law partner of Helen Hansen. Born at New Denmark in 1921, he was a son of the late Axel and Lina (Bronnum) Johansen. Mr. Johansen was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 21. Besides his partner, Helen, he is survived by two daughters, Sharon Fleming and Valerie Gardner; five grandchildren, Dionne Fleming, Rochelle Fleming, Simone Fleming, David Gardner and Kathryne Gardner; two great-grandchildren, Keanu Lihou and Oshaye McMeo, all of Ontario; as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Roy, Purdy, Guy, Ted, Dick, Ova and Tom; sisters, Bernice, Rema, Margaret, Betty, Myrtle, Rita and Joyce. A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 21st at 2 p.m. in St. Ansgar's Anglican Cemetery, New Denmark, with Rev. Ellen Curtis officiating.
