HANRATTY, THOMAS ALBERT (BERT) - Thomas Albert (Bert) Hanratty, aged 67, died in Toronto on Saturday, July 5th, 2008 at the Toronto Grace Health Centre. He was born April 16, 1941 in Sydney, Nova Scotia to Thomas John and Mary Margaret (MacDonald) Hanratty. He attended Sydney Academy and Xavier Junior College in Sydney and graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 1961. He married Mary Helen Burke in 1963 and they lived in New Brunswick from 1963 to 1994. A school teacher and principal for over thirty years, he was also very active in the New Brunswick Teachers Association, serving as its president from 1983-1985. Following Bert's retirement, he and Helen lived in Montreal from 1994 to 1996, after which they moved to Toronto. Bert is survived by his wife, Helen; four children, Liam (Lisa), Kate, Siobhan, and Niall (Tina); two grandsons, Griffin and Sam; as well as sisters, Francis Mac Cormack and Laurette (Paul) Moore; and brothers, Martin (Jeanette), Allan (Dianne), John (Diane), Bernie (Brenda), Pat (Peggy); and several nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held at St. Basil's Church in Toronto on Thursday, 10 July at 10:00 a.m. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Toronto Grace Health Centre or SpreadTheNet.org
