ROBERT "BOB" LLOYD MACVICAR
MACVICAR, ROBERT "BOB" LLOYD - passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 10, 2008, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John West on August 8, 1942, he was the son of the late Lauchlin "Duncan" MacVicar and Margaret (Flood). Bob started his fire fighting career as a volunteer with the Lancaster Fire Department in 1964, joining the Saint John Fire Department in April of 1966. He rose from rank of Lieutenant to Captain and then to District Chief in 1995, retiring in 2000 after 34 years of service. Bob was instrumental in starting the Sports and Benevolent Fund of Local 771 and served as it's pension representative for many years, also he was Chair of the 1996 Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs (CAFC) which met in Saint John that year. Bob was also very active in the Boy Scouts from 1977 until his passing, he operated the canteen at Lancaster Arena for 20 years and was an active member of Lancaster Baptist Church. Bob was a loving husband, father, brother and grampy who will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Louise (Phillips); daughter, Holly (Mark) McKenzie, Saint John; son, Duncan (Paula), Saint John; sister, Betty (Melvin) Griffin, Benton, LA; brother, D. William, Toronto; grandchildren, Nicholas, Rebecca, Christopher, Robert and Bradley. Bob was predeceased by his step-mother, Gertrude MacVicar. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors from 7 - 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Wednesday in Castle Fallsview (634-1701). A celebration of Robert's life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, August 14, 2008, at 11 a.m. Burial to follow in Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
