NORMA ELAINE (LANDRY)(RIPLEY) JIMMO

JIMMO, NORMA ELAINE (LANDRY)(RIPLEY) - Amherst N.S.- It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Norma Elaine (Landry) (Ripley) Jimmo of 3 Coates St., Amherst, N.S. Her death occurred on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan after a courageous and hard fought battle with cancer. Norma was born in Amherst on August 31, 1936 and was the eldest daughter of the late Alphie and Alma (Gallant) Landry. She received her education in Amherst graduating from Saint Charles High School in 1954 and from Saint Charles Commercial School in 1955. She was instrumental in helping to put two class reunions together, one in 1983 and the fiftieth in June of 2005. Norma retired as payroll clerk after many years of service with the Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority for the Hearing Impaired in 1995. Upon her retirement Norma joined the Amherst Farmers Market and had a table there over the past few years where she enjoyed meeting old and new friends and taking pride in the crafts she displayed. Norma was a proud member of the Amherst Lioness Club for over twenty years, where she held many club offices over the years. She was also a member of the Golden Years Society where she enjoyed the social atmosphere of the Monday morning craft circle. Norma was also a member of the Saint Charles Catholic Women's League. Another club she took great interest in was the Wannabee's Investment Club in which she held the position of vice president. Norma is survived by her son, Philip Scott Ripley at home and her two precious grandchildren who made their home with her, Karyn and Daniel Ripley; step grandson, Alex Richard of St. Louis De kent, N.B;special little friend, Cassidy Dwyer of Amherst; one sister, Linda (Donald) VanBuskirk of Milford, N.S.; three sisters in law, Eileen Jimmo of Victoria, B.C., Marilyn (Jack) VanMart of Quispamsis, N.B., and Sharon Jimmo of Saint John, N.B; four brothers in law, Kenneth (Freda) of Toronto, ON, Oswald (Sylvia) of Qualicum, B.C., Sherman of London, ON and Paul (Linda) Saint John, N.B; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Norma was predeceased by her first husband, Scott Roberts Ripley in 1981 and by her second husband, Alden C. Jimmo in 2004. Cremation has taken place. The family will hold visitation at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, N.S. (902-667-9906) on Sunday, September 7, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with parish prayers at 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. from the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Amherst with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Reception to follow in the church basement hosted by the CWL. Interment will take place in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery, Amherst. Donations in Norma's memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Cumberland Regional Library for large print books or charity of your choice. www.campbells-amherst.ca
