CARL FERRIS MCMASTER
MCMASTER, CARL FERRIS - It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Carl F. McMaster on September 14, 2008 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, at the age of 83. Born in Fredericton, NB, September 2, 1925, the son of the late James Henry and Alice Louise (Pearson) McMaster, Carl lived his entire life in Fredericton. Carl began his career working with the CNR and later moved on to operate his own businesses including East Coast Distributors, Transport Terminals, J. L. Simms (74) Ltd. in Fredericton and Maritime Explosives Ltd. in Bedford, N.S. Carl was a veteran of the Second World War, having served in the Royal Canadian Navy. He was a member and past president of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 4, Fredericton. He was a charter member and past president of the Canadian Explosives Distributors. He was also a member of St. Paul's United Church, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. In his early years Carl enjoyed hunting and fishing with his many boyhood friends. Many stories of the camp in Waasis and fishing throughout the province were a source of entertainment for family and friends. Carl was known as a great story teller and his tales caused great laughter. Summers were spent at the family camp at Oromocto Lake where his family spent some of the best times of their lives. He was renowned for his gardens and Christmas decorations. One of Carl's greatest joys was his grandchildren, whom he adored. His story telling, teasing and hours of playing games with them leave such precious memories. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Marjorie (Burtt), a daughter Alice Louise Young (Peter) of Fredericton, a son Keith Edward (Carla) of Fall River, N.S., a sister Mrs. Bert Knight (Beatrice) of Fredericton: grandchildren Chelsey and Jordan Young; Rachael, Marissa, Jamie and Erin McMaster, several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister Doris (Dobe), and three brothers Earl (Mick), Douglas and Edgar (Mannie). Visitation at McAdams Funeral Home with visiting hours Wednesday, September 17, 2008 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 PM. The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 4, will hold a tribute service at 6:30 PM, prior to the evening visiting hours. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul's United Church on Thursday September 18, 2008 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Paul Ross officiating. Internment will take place in the Fredericton Rural Extension Cemetery. Reception to follow in the Fraser Memorial Hall at St. Paul's United Church. No flowers by request, donations to the I.W.K. Childrens' Foundation, Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Foundation, St. Paul's United Church Restoration Fund, or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
