MCFARLANE, HELEN ELIZABETH "BETTY" - The sudden passing of Elizabeth "Betty" McFarlane of Saint John, NB, wife of the late George McFarlane, occurred on Tuesday, September 30, 2008. Born in Saint John on July 24, 1929, she was a daughter of the late William and Amy (Shillington) Arthurs. Betty graduated from Teachers College and taught for thirty-five years at Champlain Heights and Woodlawn Schools. She was a member of Silver Falls United Church. She is survived by a son, Greg (Kathy) of Hawkesbury, ON; a daughter, Wanda McFarlane of Saint John; a sister, Myrtle O'Brist of Philadelphia, USA; a grandson, Max Ryan of Saint John; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband in 1998; two brothers, Myles and Bob Arthurs; and a sister, Nancy Sherwood. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424. At the request of the family there will not be any visiting at the funeral home and a private family service will be held on Friday, October 3, 2008. Interment will be in Fernhill Cemetery.
