IRVINE, MARY AUDREY - Audrey (Bamford) Irvine, of Saint John, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the SJRH on October 26, 2008. Audrey was born January 31, 1922 to the late Harry and Mabel (Benner) Bamford of West Saint John. She was a loving and devoted Mom to her four children, Janice Irvine-Meek (Gary Meek), Moncton; Ian Irvine (Kari), Nerepis; Lois Nickerson (Frank), Saint John; Katherine Swift (Edwin), Fredericton. She is also survived by her brother Philip (Erie) Bamford; sister, Anne Starr; sister-in-law Katherine Shearer; and several nieces and nephews. Audrey was predeceased by her loving husband, Gilbert, this past June; step-mother, Sarah Jane Bamford; brother, Richard (Dick); and brother-in-law, E.E. "Tommy" Starr. Audrey particularly delighted in sharing in the experiences of her six grandchildren: Andrew Meek (Perth-Andover); Nicholas Nickerson (Saint John); Katelyn Nickerson (Ottawa); Hilary Meek (Moncton); Laura Nickerson (Inverness); Ainsley Swift (Fredericton). A graduate of Saint John High School (1940), Audrey worked for the Dept. of Veterans' Affairs for several years prior to her marriage. She enjoyed gardening, travelling, was a member of the 3F Club (Aquatic Centre), and the Parkinson's Society. Audrey was very active in the life of the Church of the Good Shepherd, as a member of the ACW and Altar Guild. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff and volunteers of the SJRH , Palliative Care Unit, caregivers of Senior Watch, and to all friends and family who provided love and support during her illness. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, "Fallsview Chapel", 309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John West, the family will receive visitors on Tuesday, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from Church of the Good Shepherd, 668 Manawagonish Rd, with Interment to follow at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
