JOAN KING

KING, JOAN - Mrs. Joan (Sharpe) King of Saint John, wife of the late Arthur Frank King, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, December 01, 2008. Joan was born in England on July 26, 1930. After World War II, she served in the British Land Army, and was married to Frank King on July 26, 1952. She and her young family lived in Iraq from 1956-1958 and immigrated to Canada in 1959. After a brief stay in Sarnia, Ontario, they moved to Saint John, where the family was enlarged by two more children. Besides raising a family, Joan was an active member of St. Mary's - St. Bartholomew's Church in Forest Hills, and served many years on the Altar Guild. She was also a long time volunteer at Forest Hills Elementary School, a canvasser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and a long-standing member of the Conservative Party. Joan is survived by two daughters, Sharon DeWitt (Miles) of Plaster Rock, NB, and Amanda Edgett (Raye) of Kingston, NB; one son, Peter King (Monique) of Quispamsis; five grandchildren, Matthew DeWitt (Rebecca), Sarah DeWitt, Christopher Edgett, Kate Edgett, and Renée King. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday from 7-9 and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:30 AM from Brenan's Chapel.
