GRANT, HELEN M (BROOKE) - Passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2008, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Wife of the late Rev. William Eric Grant. Born on July 17, 1917, she was the daughter of the late William and Ellen (Wilson) Brooke. Helen was very involved in all the church activities, both before and after her husbands death. After Eric's death she was secretary at the Westside Kirk and later worked at Alma College in London, Ontario as a House Mother, where she was the girl's Mother away from Home. She returned to Saint John three years later and worked at the Public Library until her retirement. Helen was active, throughout her life and even after her retirement, volunteering at the Saint John Regional Auxiliary and Carleton-Kirk Lodge. Until her passing she worked on the memorial cards for the Lodge. She enjoyed music and played the organ and piano for the Lodge at various functions, but her greatest passion was her family. They were her life and she loved them very much and will be sadly missed by her son, Bill (Lynn) Grant and daughter, Peggy (Malcolm) Gale, both of Saint John; sister, Marjorie Slater, of Winnipeg, Manitoba; 8 grandchildren, Michelle, Michael, Matthew, Murray, Trevor, Trisha, Ryan and Robert; 4 great grandchildren, Madison, Carter, Ethan and Erin and several nieces and nephews. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, "Fallsview Chapel", 309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John West (634-1701) visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from Carleton-Kirk United Church. Interment to follow in Cedar Hill Ext. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations, in memory of Helen, may be made to the Saint John Free Public Library or Hospice-Saint John.
