ETHEL M.V. PARLEE

PARLEE, ETHEL M.V. - Ethel Maude Vivian Parlee of Saint John, and formerly of MacDonald Point and the Narrows, wife of the late Charles Lewis Parlee, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, in her 104th year. Born in Saint John on June 25, 1905, she was a daughter of the late Scott Nathan and Nettie Jane (Reece) Humphrey. Ethel taught school in Queens County, and was a Vice-Principal at Woodlawn School and Glen Falls School, from which she retired. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and its predecessor, Waterloo Street Baptist Church, as well as being a member of Dominion Lodge # 18 of the Ladies Orange Benevolent Association. Ethel was also an honorary member of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of the LOBA of Canada, a member of the Crystal Chapter, and the Loyalist Temple # 13 Pythian Sisters, holding various offices in all of these organizations. Ethel is survived by two daughters, Marie C. Parlee of Saint John, and Shirley Rinehart (Robert) of Saint John; a sister-in-law, Ida Humphrey of Moncton; a granddaughter, Dr. Shelley Rinehart (Richard Lee) of Saint John; a grandson, Scott Rinehart (Jenny Hewett), also of Saint John. Ethel was predeceased by her husband; a brother, Glendon Humphrey, an infant brother and sister, two nephews and one niece. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday from 7-9 PM and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 2:30 PM from Brenan's Chapel. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to Cornerstone Baptist Church, or any charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. The members of the Ladies Orange Benevolent Association will gather on Thursday at 6:45 PM at the funeral home to pay tribute to Mrs. Parlee. brenansfh@selectfunerals.com
