CAPT. WILLIAM M. (RET'D) GAYTON
GAYTON, CAPT. WILLIAM M. (RET'D) - Relatives and friends of Bill Gayton gathered at St. Stephen's Catholic Church Milltown, to pay their final respects to a good husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Friend to many, who lost a very courageous battle to Cancer on December 30th. 2008. His wife and step-son Ken, were at his bedside. Beloved husband of Dorothy Caissie, beloved Father to daughters, Pam Walton (Robert) Antigonish, N.S.; Judy Gayton, Medicine Hat, Alberta; Susan Leroux (Dan) Regina Saskatchewan and Nansi Gayton-Gallizzi (Sam) Guelph Ontario. Step-sons Ken and Scott Chalmers, five grandchildren: Katelin, Kelsey, Haley, Steven and Abigail. He is survived by one sister, Carolann Kesselring (Dave), Jarrettsville, MD and one brother, Joe Gayton, Detroit Michigan, as well as several nieces and nephews. Bill was a Peacekeeper for 32 1/2 years with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME), commissioned from the ranks, serving in Cyprus, Europe and the Middle East, retiring in 1985, then serving six years with Environment Canada, installing Doppler Radar sites. Bill was very efficient in anything he did. They moved back to Todd St. (Bill's Family home) in 1991 and Bill renovated the whole house. (the woodwork in their garage would make you wish for the same in your kitchen). He was a dedicated and hard working member of Milltown Branch #48 Royal Canadian Legion, giving tirelessly of his time and talents. He loved children and looked forward to going to the Milltown Elementary School around Remembrance Day each year and marching them to the cenotaph. When the Milltown Legion and the Ladies Auxiliary were doing the reading program, it was Bill, the children asked for. At the time of his death, he was Padre of the Branch and with the help of his daughter Judy, came to the Milltown Cenotaph for the Remembrance Day service and Brunch at the Milltown Legion. He had his own way of doing things, and didn't hesitate to let you know, but studied and knew protocol right down to the nth degree. He loved people and was a very dear friend, and will surely be missed by all who knew him. And so my friend, You have earned your rest and peace.. May the earth rest easy over you as you lie beneath it, Go with God.
