MARY MONICA BOWLIN

BOWLIN, MARY MONICA - Mary Monica Bowlin of Fredericton, formerly of Moncton, occurred at Windsor Court in Fredericton, NB, on February 23rd, 2009, Mary was born in Woodstock, NB on January 31st, 1918, the youngest child of the late Charles William and Annie (Owens) Bowlin. Following graduation from Woodstock High School and Carleton County Vocational School, Mary attended Provincial Normal School and taught for three years in NB Public Schools. She attended St. Francis Xavier University for 1 year and later completed her B.A. Degree at the University of Ottawa. She was employed for several years at the Canadian Forces Base Moncton (formerly 5 Supply Depot RCAF) as Base Civilian Personnel Officer where she held offices on the Joint Management Staff Association, Public Personnel Association and for The Board of Directors Moncton Civil Servants' Credit Union. In 1967 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada, the Centennial Medal was awarded to Mary at CFB Moncton in recognition of "Valuable Service to the Department of National Defense." In 1971 she accepted a managerial position with The Department of Secretary of State at the Court of Canadian Citizenship in Moncton where she worked until her retirement. While in Moncton, Mary attended St. Bernard's Church and acted on various church and volunteer committees, including the Parish Council, the "Moncton 100" Religious Education Committee, the United Way and other charitable appeals. She was a former member of the Moncton Garrison Badminton Club, Lakeside Golf Club and the Moncton Business Ladies Curling Club. Mary was the last remaining member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by a sister Kathleen, brothers Paul, Donald, Wilfrid and Eugene; Special nieces Frances Goguen and Mary Ann Beaubien. She leaves to mourn several nieces and nephews including Ann (Paul) Hill, Marta (Al) Fraser, Connie (Paul) Duffie, Beth O'Leary, Thomas (Nancy) Bowlin, Michael Bowlin and Moira Bowlin, Catherine (Mac) MacDonald , Claude and Charles Bowlin, Alice Bowlin, sisters-in-law Olive and Mary Bowlin, and special friend Ronald Page. Resting at the Scott Funeral Home, Woodstock, NB with visiting on Wednesday, February 25th from 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church, Woodstock, NB on Thursday, Feb. 26th, 2009 at 11 am. Father Bill Brennan will be officiating with interment in the Calvary cemetery, at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a Charity of the donors choice. www.scottfh.com
