SHAWNIE LYNN HICKS

HICKS, SHAWNIE LYNN - Shawnie Lynn Hicks, 56, of Moncton, with her loving family by her side, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Tuesday, February 24th, 2009, after a courageous 6 ½ year battle with breast cancer. Shawnie was a graduate of the New Brunswick Community College, and started working for the City of Dartmouth as secretary to the City Clerk Treasurer and later the Fire Chief, before starting her most important profession of choice, as mother to Scott and Katie. She was also a member of the Petitcodiac Baptist Church. Shawnie will be greatly missed by parents, Charles and Helen Stewart of Petitcodiac; her loving husband of over 35 years, Brian Hicks; son, Scott and his wife Jaimie and their children, Gracie and Madelyn of Moncton; daughter, Katie Doyle and her husband Brett and their daughter, Hannah of Moncton; mother and father-in-law, Joan and Irwin Hicks of Riverview; brother-in-law, David (Christianne) of Riverview; nephews, Shawn Hicks of Calgary and Devin Hicks of Camp Borden, Jonathan and Josh at home; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. In 2007 Brian was asked 20 Questions by the Times & Transcript and his answer to the question of "Who is your role model?" was "My Wife Shawnie. She has always been my best friend, she is the smartest person I know, there isn't a craft she can't do or anything around the house she can't fix, the best mother I have ever seen and has looked after me for over 34 years". Shawnie has touched so many people in a very special way and we thank God for her life. Special thanks to cousin, Audrey Jones of Sussex and Shawnie's "Little Sister", cousin Marlene Hueston for their help and caring. The family would like to thank all those people who helped Shawnie over the last 6 ½ years, especially Dr. Rubin and his staff in the Oncology Clinic at the Moncton Hospital, Dr. Chesser, the Extra-Mural staff, Gail Boudreau, as well as Dr. Phelan and the staff of 3600 who helped so much during Shawnie's final stay at the hospital. Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995), Friday, February 27th, 2009, 2 to 4, 7 to 9pm. Following Shawnie's wishes, a private family funeral will also take place. In Shawnie's memory, donations to the Oncology Clinic of the Moncton Hospital, SPCA or donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences at: www.fergusonknowlesfh.com
