ROBERT LEO "SCOOTER" MCCARTHY
MCCARTHY, ROBERT LEO "SCOOTER" - It was with great sadness the family of Bob McCarthy announces his passing to go home to be with his Lord and Saviour. During his failing health his residence was Ridgewood Veteran's Wing where he passed away on March 16, 2009 at the age of 85. Born in Saint John on December 16, 1923, he was the son of the late Florence and Ginieve (Bryson) McCarthy. He is survived by three sons; Bernard (Carol) of Moncton, Robert Jr. of Saint John, Kenneth (Irene) of Nerepis, and two daughters Sandra Doyle of Saint John and Maureen (Bob) Ervin of Nerepis, and a very special companion and friend Joyce Thibault. He has several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Florence, infant daughter Colleen Lynn, son Charles (Chuddy), father Florence and mother Jenny and great aunt Helen. He worked for CPR Truckers for many years and then for the City of Saint John for almost 30 years. He was an active member of RCL Branch #69. He enjoyed darts and horseshoes. He had a great love for music. One thing he loved to do was whistle, as a lot of people called him "Whistling Bob". A very special thank you to Joyce Thibault who gave Dad a lot of joy and laughter. Resting at Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John West (634-1701). Visiting on Thursday from 2 to 4, and 7 to 9 p.m. The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday March 20, 2009 at 12 noon from Our Lady of the Assumption Church. A reception will take place at the Fallsview Family Reception Centre following the service. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Field of Honour. A tribute to a Veteran Service will be held at Fallsview on Thursday at 7 p.m. Donations in Mr. McCarthy's memory to the Alzheimer's Society, NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by his family.
