CHARLES ROWLAND "ROY" SWANSTON
SWANSTON, CHARLES ROWLAND "ROY" - Unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on March 25, 2009, Mr. Charles Rowland "Roy" Swanston, husband of the late Mrs. Marion Swanston of Pennfield NB. Roy was born at Lincoln, England, on July 9, 1921. A loving father, grandfather and brother, he is survived by two sons; Terry (Gisele) Swanston and Kirk (Mona) Swanston both of Pennfield, one granddaughter, Stephanie Henry of St. George NB, one great granddaughter, Abigail Henry, one sister, Demi Stevens of Lincoln, England, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife Marion, he was predeceased by one son, Gary, two brothers; Alec and Cyril and by three sisters; Florie, Emma and Sylvie. Roy served overseas with the British Army and later The RAF in World War II. He came to Canada to train at the base located at Pennfield NB in 1943, where he met and married his bride Marion. He then returned to England until the end of the war finally returning back to Canada where he spent the remainder of his days. He was a Stationery Engineer by trade and worked for many years at CFB Gagetown, and worked for Connor's Bros. until his retirement. Roy was an avid golfer and bowler and an active member of the Pennfield Baptist Church. Resting at the Pennfield Baptist Church with visiting on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The service will be held at the church on Saturday at 2 pm with Rev. Grant Alcorn officiating. The interment will take place at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery in the spring. There will be a Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service held at the church on Friday at 7 pm. In Roy's memory, donations to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
