Margaret Anne Williams, age 92 of Belvedere Drive, Sydney River, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 9, 2009 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Allan and Rachel (MacDonald) McCormick of French Road, C.B.
Many lives have been touched by this wonderful woman. She enjoyed many things in life, but home and family is what she treasured most. Sitting around the kitchen table or sitting outside on a sunny day, she welcomed all visitors with a warm smile and a cup of tea. She was an avid quilter and her many quilts will give comfort to those who have one of these ‘labours of love.’
Margaret was a founding member of Our Lady of Fatima parish and life member of the C.W.L, one of the first members of the Spanish River Seniors’ Club; she served on the hospitality committee and had enjoyed playing cards and bowling with her many friends.
Margaret is survived by her seven daughters, Mary (Bill Jamael); Lorraine (Jim MacIntyre); Sheila (Lee MacKenzie); Edna (Ross Mac Cormack); Peggy Brown (Archie Pushie), all of Sydney; Georgie (Bill Gallagher), Dartmouth and Sharyn McDonald, New Waterford. She leaves behind her adoring 19 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, sisters Catherine MacDougall; Mary Jane MacMullin, both of Sydney; Sally Johnston and brother Dan Joe McCormick, both of Ontario; also sisters-in-law, Florence Bates and Verna Williams and brothers-in-law, Vince and Joe Williams, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward in 2003 after 63 years of marriage; an infant son, Robert Allan; son-in-law, Gary McDonald; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Williams will take place on Thursday, Feb. 12 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Rev. Will MacPherson officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
