MADELINE MABEL (SMITH) HASTINGS

HASTINGS, MADELINE MABEL (SMITH) - of Dryden, Ontario, widow of Walter Hastings, died May 2, 2009 at her residence in Princess Court, Dryden, Ont. at age of 85. She was born in West Saint John, NB, daughter of the late William H. and Mercy (Jarrett) Smith. Madeline lived her early years in Saint John, NB. She was an Anglican by faith. Madeline met her future husband when he was stationed in Saint John, NB as a member of the Lake Superior Regiment. Walter served overseas during WWII and upon his return to Canada in 1945, they were married in October, 1945 in St. Jude's Anglican Church, Saint John, NB and returned to Walter's hometown of Dryden, Ont. to reside. She is survived by four sons and two daughters, all in Ontario, grand children and great-grandchildren. Surviving also are brother Arthur E. Smith of Saint John, NB, Constance (Donald) Smith of Petitcodiac, NB and Irene (Bernard) of Debert, NS, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Madeline was predeceased by four sisters, Dorothy, Ruby, Elizabeth and Phyllis and brother William M. (Bud). Funeral service was held in Dryden, Ont. on May 6, 2009.
