HURLEY, RUBY MARGARET ELIZABETH (NEE BLAKNEY) (1935 - 2009) - Born in Stoney Creek, NB on January 6, 1935, Ruby Margaret Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Abel and Laura (Steeves) Blakney. Graduated from Moncton High School in 1952 and Saint John General Hospital nursing school in 1956. Upon graduation, Ruby worked in the outpatient department and operating room in Saint John. She then moved to Fredericton and worked at Victoria General Hospital and later in 4 SW at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital and operating room until her retirement in 1996. Ruby was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for 50 years as well as an avid bridge and card player. In addition, she curled and was a member of St. Dunstan's Roman Catholic Church. Ruby is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Dr. Ronald C. Hurley who died in February 2009 and oldest son, Ronald Jr. who died in June 1983. She is survived by sons Richard Thomas and Robert James and daughters-in-law Sinikka and Yennah. Ruby was the beloved "Grammie" of three (Jordan, Kirsten and Emily). In addition, she is survived by siblings James, Audrey Horsman, Peter, Yvonne Bembridge, and Charles. Ruby was predeceased by siblings Edward (Ted), Lloyd (Tim), Roy (Doug), Perley, Lawrence, Paul, and Kathleen (Kathy). She will be missed by her many friends and extended members of her family. Ruby passed away peacefully at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on May 14, 2009 with her family at her side. She is resting at McAdams Select Community Funeral Home with visitation on Sunday, May 17th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 18th at 12:00 pm at St. Dunstan's Church with Rev. Mark Trzop as celebrant. Interment will take place in the Hermitage Cemetery.
