EDWARD A. BROOMHEAD

BROOMHEAD, EDWARD A. - Edward A. Broomhead was born in Carcroft, Yorkshire England April 4, 1918 to his loving parents Thomas and Bertha (Hindby) Broomhead. Edward graduated from the University of Sheffield Medical School in 1942 and immediately entered the British 21st Army medical corps where he served in various places including: England, Scotland, France and India. During his service time in England he met his future wife, Margaret Alice (Desborough) and in 1947 they were wed. Following the war, Edward finished his internship and started a practice in Maltby, a mining town in Southern Yorkshire. He practiced medicine there for 18 years before immigrating to New Brunswick in 1966. They came to settle in Plaster Rock where he worked for three years out of the Tobique Valley Hospital. In 1969, Edward opened his practice in Sussex, along with his supportive colleague Marlene Munson at his side; he practiced medicine for the next 38 years until his retirement in 2007 at the age of eighty-nine. Edward loved his patients. He had the intelligence and gift for diagnosis which were appreciated by many over the years. He was an avid reader and took a keen interest in all around him. He is survived by his son, and primary caregiver, Mark of Sussex; his son, Jonathan and his wife Leigh; his two loving granddaughters: Jennifer and Jillian (Eric) Harnish all of Lower Sackville, NS. Edward was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by Margaret, his loving wife of 49 years; his younger sister, Constance and his younger brother, Robert. Edward Agriffiths Broomhead, M.D. of Sussex, NB, passed away peacefully at the Sussex Health Centre on May 18th, 2009 at the age of 91. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex (506) 433-1176. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 1:00 to 3:00pm. At Dr. Broomhead's request no funeral service will be held. Donations made to the Sussex Health Centre Foundation in memory of Dr. Broomhead would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to express to the community their appreciation for your thoughts and well wishes at this time.
