STANLEY VAUGHAN

VAUGHAN, STANLEY - Stanley Vaughan, 87, died May 30, 2009, at Dartmouth, General Hospital. Born in Halifax, he was the youngest son of the late Charles Henry and Johanna (Clarke) Vaughan. He was educated in Halifax after which he was employed with Simpsons and Mardn Wild of Canada. In 1942, he joined the Canadian Army and after his release on medical grounds in 1944, he joined the Federal Civil Service. He first served with the UIC and then joined the Department of National Defence at the Naval Armament Depot in Dartmouth. This was followed by service at the Naval Supply Depot in Halifax and the Civilian Personnel Office at HMC dockyard. In 1969, he took up the position as Base Civilian Personnel Officer at CFB Cornwallis and in 1972, moved to CFB Gagetown in the same position. On retirement, he moved to Conquerall Bank and took up the part-time position as coordinator of the Lunenberg County Rural Housing Authority. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed photography, barbershop singing, woodworking and travel. He especially enjoyed his 12 years at their winter home in Brooksville, Florida. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Richardson Hamm) Vaughan; a son, George, Bowmanville, ON; daughters, Anne (Robert) Bigelow, Stellarton; and Louise (David) Connors, Dartmouth; and step-daughter, Veronica Warner, Halifax; special sister, Barbara Shea; also surviving are five grandchildren: Johanna (John) Lake, Alison (Andrew) Taylor, Michael Bigelow, Geoffrey (Julie Matthews) Vaughan, Janice Vaughan and two great- great children, Katherine Lake and Audrey Taylor. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marie (Delahunt) Vaughan; sisters, Helen (MacPherson) Cole, Mildred Byrne, Margaret in infancy; brothers, Henry, Frederick, Bernard, Leonard, Charles and Arthur. His remains are resting at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Visitation was held Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Lawrence Church, Dutch Village Road, Halifax, Tuesday, June 2 at 9 a.m. Reception to follow in the Church Hall, burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
