CLOVIS BURTON EVERETT

EVERETT, CLOVIS BURTON, CD COL. (RETIRED) - Passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on February 8, 1927, in Victoria Beach, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. He is survived by his wife Patricia (Morrison) and children, Calvin Everett (Victoria) of West Vancouver, B.C., his daughter, Colleen Everett of North Augusta, Ontario, three grandchildren, Kevin, Nicholas and Jennifer; three stepchildren, Christine, Kenneth, and Brian Saumure. Clovis was predeceased by his first wife, Theresa (Melanson), his parents Burton and Pauline Everett and sister Pauline (Ellis) of Victoria Beach, Annapolis County, N.S. Clovis joined the Merchant Navy when he was 16 (WWII) and sailed to Europe, Central America and coastal waters from 1943 - 1948. He was a member of the RCMP from 1948 - 1952, the Sault Ste-Marie Police force from 1952 - 1955 and the RCAF Military Police from 1955 - 1977. He served with the Western Special Investigations Detachment in Calgary, twice at the Directorate of Security in Ottawa; at CFB Greenwood NS, and at NATO Senior Staff Office of Security in Metz France and retired from CFB Chatham, NB. He was an officer of Masonic Lodge Lorraine Lodge 47, in France, which went into darkness on closing of Air Division Headquarters. Clovis joined the HQ Staff of the Corps of Commissionnaires at Saint John, NB in 1978 and served as the Col. Commandmant from 1983 to 1997, supervising NB/PEI and a portion of Nova Scotia. He was subsequently appointed to the Board of Governors of The Commissionnaires in 1998. His relaxation was the quietness of fishing and hunting with no determination to catch fish or shoot game. Clovis was a longtime member of the United Commercial Travellers, the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 69) and Merchant Navy Association. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, "Fallsview Chapel", 309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John West visitation will take place on Thursday and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Where the Royal Canadian Legion will hold a Legion service 7 p.m. Friday. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, in the funeral home chapel. Burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Donations, may be made to the Salvation Army.
