REVEREND JOHN GILBERT (1924 - 2009) PEARCE

PEARCE, REVEREND JOHN GILBERT (1924 - 2009) - Brown's Yard, NB - Reverend John G. Pearce, Anglican Priest of Kent County, passed away at Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital, Friday, June 5th, 2009 after a brief illness. Born November 23rd, 1924 in Montreal, QC, he was the son of the late Gilbert Henry and Edith Atwater (Scarff) Pearce. John will be sadly missed by his only brother, Brian (Cynthia) of Montreal, niece, Janet (Gregg) Corcoran and her children, Mark, Stephen, Christine and niece Cindy (André) Zylinski and her children, Courtney and Cameron. A WW II Veteran, John served with the Royal Canadian Navy aboard a Minesweeper. After his service with the Navy he entered Bishops College where he studied English and Philosophy and obtained his B.A. He finished in 1952 and was ordained on May 22, 1953 in Montreal. His first parish was St. Ignatius in Montreal, then to St. Colomba parish for 9 years and then on to Shawville, Qc. After that it was on to St. Peter's Church, Ottawa for the next 17 years until his retirement in 1989. After his retirement he spent 2 ½ months In Kenya, then he was called to Nova Scotia and worked in a parish for 9 years, then spent time with the Church Army in Saint John. Reverend John Pearce then became Anglican Priest for the Parish of Kent, Diocese of Fredericton, where he was also Chaplain of Camp Medley, Instructor at St. Michael's Youth Conference, Noted Author of Christian Bible Study and Devotional Materials and regular contributor to the Anglican Free Press. Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 10th at St. Matthew's Anglican Church, Harcourt, 9:30 to 11:30 am, St. John's Anglican Church, Rexton, 2 to 4 pm, St. Paul's Anglican Church, Brown's Yard, 7 to 9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, June 11th, 2009 at St. George's Anglican Church, 51 Church Street, Moncton. Interment at St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery, Brown's Yard with a reception to follow at the Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Paul,s building Fund, St. Michael's Youth Conference or Camp Medley would be appreciated. Note: If you wish to purchase any of Rev.
