JOHN ALAN LISTER

LISTER, JOHN ALAN - The death of John Alan Lister occurred in Ottawa on April 22, 2009. Born in River de Chute, Parish of Wicklow on June 7, 1927 he was the son of Charles Earle Lister and Olla (Graham) Lister. He is survived by two sisters, Helen R. Miller, Perth-Andover, N.B. and Phyllis M. Mitchell of St. Clair Shores, Michigan; one niece Ann (Miller) Haché of Ottawa; one nephew G. Randall Mitchell of St. Clair Shores, Michigan; three grand-nephews Carlton and Michael Mitchell, of Michigan, and Charles E. Haché of Ottawa; one grand-niece Emily K. Haché of Montreal. He was predeceased by one brother Earle Graham Lister and a nephew Stewart Alan Mitchell; two brothers-in-law Donald W. Miller and Clainie D. Mitchell. Funeral service was held at the Westboro Chapel of Tubmans Funeral Home, Ottawa with the Rev. Christopher Dunn, Rector of All Saints Anglican Church officiating. Interment took place at St. George's Cemetery, Bairdsville, N.B. Arrangements were by Brunswick Funeral Home, Perth-Andover, N.B. He joined the military in February 1945 in Fredericton, N.B. later receiving his wings after passing the basic parachute course at Canadian Joint Air Training Centre, Rivers, Manitoba. A Sgt. in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps, he spent several years in Germany with the 1st Canadian Field Ambulance when the Canadian Army was part of the peace-keeping operations in Europe. He retired from the Dept. of National Defence in Ottawa in 1977 and has since resided in Ottawa, spending summers at his home in Perth-Andover, N.B.
