EDWARD - 1925 - 2009 MCFARLAND

MCFARLAND, EDWARD - 1925 - 2009 - The family of Ed (Edward) McFarland of Moncton, NB regret to announce his sudden passing at The Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, July 29, 2009. Ed was born April 23, 1925 in Whitehead Kings County, NB. Ed was retired from Canada Post (August 1989); he also served 25 plus years with the Canadian Armed Forces (RCAF) (December 1973); his wartime service was from 1943 - 1946; serving with the 162 Squadron, Reykjavik, Iceland. Ed was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Moncton Branch #6; Air Forces Veterans Club, Moncton (Past Director); and the Air Force Association of Canada; and he actively supported the Legion Poppy Campaign each year. Ed was fortunate enough in 2005 to participate in the Year of the Veteran Via Rail cross-Canada trip to Ottawa where he shook hands with many grateful young Canadians. Ed was so impressed by the shear numbers that turned out to support the Veterans as they made their way across Canada. The smiles and waves from everyone meant a lot. Ed was predeceased by his loving wife of 47 years, Mildred (Bishop) McFarland in August 1998. Ed is survived by: daughters, Patricia Johnson, Fort McMurrary, AB; Sharline Kuzikowski (Edward), St Albert, AB and Tracy Bourque (Raymond), Halifax, NS; and sons, Gary McFarland, Halifax, NS and Michael McFarland (Theresa), Calgary, AB., grandchildren: Saul McFarland, Toronto, ON; Faith McFarland, Fredericton, NB; Jody Johnson, Halifax, NS; Gordon Johnson, Ottawa, ON; Meagan McFarland, Calgary, AB and Ryan McFarland, Calgary, AB and a great grandchild, Fiona McFarland, Fredericton, NB. Ed can best be remembered for his tireless generosity to many local services such as the lunch programs with the Veterans VOP; many catering functions at the Lions Senior Citizens Centre; Air Force Veterans Club; No 10 and No 5 (the old militia and military base). Ed has enjoyed his past 1 ½ years at Peoples Park Tower - meeting new friends and re-kindling old friendships. Ed was always willing to lend a hand wherever he could. Ed loved to be with friends and family enjoying a laugh, taking photos, and talking about old times. Ed's door was always open to friends and family and the many friends of his children and grandchildren. There was always a place to lay your head, eat a meal and share a laugh or two. Resting at Fair Haven Funeral Home with visitation on Saturday, from 2-4 pm and 7 pm - 9 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion will conduct a public Legion service at 6:50 pm on Saturday, August 1st. The funeral service will take place at 1 pm on Sunday, August 2, 2009 in the chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home. Reception to follow in the Garden View Reception Room. In memory of Ed memorial donations may be made to The Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation; The Alzheimer's Society of NB, or The Canadian Diabetes Association.
