RHODA FERN ELDRIDGE
ELDRIDGE, RHODA FERN - Passed peacefully into the arms of God at her home, at St. George, NB on Tuesday, September 8th, 2009, surrounded by family. Born on September 2nd, 1921, at L'Etete NB to Bert and Edith (McMahon) Dick. A loving mother, grandmother and sister she is survived by one son, Allen (Laura) Eldridge of St. George NB; three daughters, Patricia Anderson, Evangeline "Eva" (Terry) Leslie of St. George and Dorothy Ann Eldridge all of St. George; five grandsons, Kyle, Kory (Jolene), Keith (Amanda), Bill and Cody; three granddaughters, Wendy (Mike), Christine and Leigha; two great grandchildren, Abby Kernighan and Grace Leslie; one brother, Clayton (Marjorie) Dick of St. George, one sister, Marion Barry of St. George; one aunt, Dorothy Kesselring of Calais ME; sister in laws, Frances Eldridge and Jean Dick; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Millen Eldridge, she was predeceased by one brother, Elwood and by two brother in laws, Gordon and Harold. Rhoda moved to Philadelphia where she studied cosmotology and worked as an assistant with her uncle, Dr. Frank Smith & Marion Dick, Osteopath. She came back to Canada and enlisted in the army as a Dental Assistant where she continued to work until the war ended and this is where she met her first husband, Ben Miner. Following this, Rhoda had two daughters and studied nursing at the Colchester Regional Hospital. After this she began working at the Hospital in Blacks Harbour, now known as the Fundy Health Center. Rhoda's first husband had passed away and she remarried Millen Eldridge of Beaver Harbour and had two more children. She continued working in Blacks Harbour and lived in Beaver Harbour until 1985 at which time she moved to St. George where she lived until she passed. Rhoda was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #40, St. George, and belonged to the L'Etete Church of Christ. Rhoda's spirit touched many lives and will be fondly remembered and sadly missed. She was a kind, gentle and caring person who always accepted people wherever they were in life, always listening and never judging. She took life in stride and never let fear stand in her way of adventure, whether it was sea kayaking or traveling to unknown destinations. A celebration of Rhoda's life will be held at the L'Etete Church of Christ, L'Etete NB on Saturday at 10:30 am. Visiting at the church will be held on Friday from 3 to 7 pm. In Rhoda's memory, donations to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
