MAWHINNEY, EVANGELINE- It is with great sadness that the family of Evangeline Mawhinney announce her death which occurred unexpectedly in Montreal, QC. Born on November 19th, 1935 in Saint John to the late Clarence and Annie (McGowan) Mawhinney. Evangeline was a secretary for over 37 years working for Crosby Molasses, J.D Irving, Canada Packers and the Canadian Bible Society; retiring in 1990 and was active with Avon. She was a member of the Forest Hills Baptist Church and Choir and was a Sunday School Teacher for many years. Evangeline is survived by her son Sterling Mawhinney of Montreal, QC and daughter Juanita Mawhinney of Saint John; several cousins and friends. Besides her parents, Evangeline was predeceased by her husband Daryl Mawhinney in 1994; two aunts Henrietta Cassidy in 2008 and Ella Christopher and five uncles Paige and Gordon McGowan and Robert, Douglas, and Percival Mawhinney. Resting at the Fundy Funeral Home 230 Westmorland Rd. (646-2424) with visitations on Sunday and Monday, September 13 & 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the Forest Hills Baptist Church, 36 Mountain Rd. on Tuesday September 15, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow. Interment will be in Maces Bay Cemetery.
