EMILY ELIZABETH THORNE
THORNE, EMILY ELIZABETH - On Saturday, September 12th, 2009, after a lifelong battle with a Chronic Respiratory condition, seventeen year old Emily Elizabeth Thorne passed away at home in Fredericton, surrounded by her family. Although challenged by health limitations, Emily did not let them define her. She eagerly attended Nashwaak Valley and Barkers Point Schools and when no longer able, she enjoyed home tutoring. She looked forward to her activities at Brunswick Street Baptist Church and she was a loyal fan of her brothers' hockey playing. When able, Emily enjoyed playing and watching street hockey in her own yard. Wherever Emily went she touched people with her radiant smile, warm hugs and sense of humor. She loved parties and eagerly anticipated every special occasion - causing others to become excited, too. Emily was the special and beloved daughter of Michael and Shawn (nee Cossey) Thorne. She is survived by her two brothers, Jake and Joel Thorne both at home; paternal grandparents, Gordon and Shirley Thorne (Fredericton) and maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Cossey (Saint John); aunts and uncles, Jim and Pam Cossey, Catherine and Scott MacKeil, Andrew and Jodi Thorne; cousins, Eric & Lisa Cossey, Sarah MacKeil, Mathew and Jennifer Thorne and by her big black dog, Molly. Emily was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, Allan Cossey. Emily's family are grateful to the Pediatrics Team at the DECH, Extra Mural, Vital Air, Dr. G. Plummer, Dr. R. Krishnaswamy, Dr. B Bullied, caregivers Karen Sorenson, Joanne Cogswell, Sandi Stiles, Shelley Pronk and tutor Paul Oxford for making it possible for Emily to stay at home with them. In keeping with her love of a party, a celebration of Emily's life will be held on Thursday, September 17th, 2009, 11 am at Brunswick Street Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 15th, from 7-9 pm and on Wednesday, September 16th, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Youth Floor at Brunswick Street Baptist Church or to Opal Family Services. www.mcadamsfh.com
